GOH RYAN
REBECCA LEE
FOO YONG CHIN

Year 2 - Cinematography.

Maggie and Tony suspect their spouses of having an affair and arrange to meet at a hotel. They leave their meeting with unsaid possibilities. This was one of our proudest projects even though it was done for our Year 2 Cinematography module. We were required to recreate or adapt a scene from any movie and enhance it with our own creative input. Our inspiration for The World We Knew was the 20-year-old film In the Mood for Love by Wong Kar Wai.

CHIA WEI LING

Year 3 - Cinematography.

The objective of this class assignment was to style a product in a visually appealing way. We were not commissioned by any brand and had the freedom to work with any product. I sought inspiration from fragrance commercials and works of prop stylists for my television commercial on Yves Rocher’s shower gel. I focused on art direction and mood lighting, and enhanced the set with effects such as wind and bubbles to stimulate the senses and simulate a relaxing bath experience. I handled the art-direction, filming and editing myself, with the help from some friends on set.

GABRIEL HO RUI JIE

Year 3 - Cinematography.

Our class assignment was to style a piece of film equipment – the ARRI 150 watt tungsten light – and shoot it as a subject for a TV commercial. This exercise allowed us to practise our artistic skills in styling a tool that we are accustomed to seeing on set in an attractive and artistic way. Inspired by the high-end aesthetics and sleek art direction of luxury car and watch commercials, I conceptualised, directed and edited this non-commissioned work.

DIRECTING & CINE-DIRECT

Directing teaches students different aspects of pre-scriptwriting, scene direction, completion of scriptwriting, script visualisation, pre-production, acting, blocking, direction, rehearsal and filming. The focus is on equipping students with the essential skills to become competent directors so as to build a creative portfolio.

In Cine-Direct, students get to incorporate and apply what they learn from the Cinematography and Directing modules in a cross-module combined project. This integration helps them develop a deeper understanding of the interrelated and complementary roles of Director and Cinematographer.
